With yesterday spent sorting our camper out after getting back from a great six week trip to France, today was too nice a day not to get out on the bikes. We made a flask but with nothing in the cupboard we set off to Tesco for a couple of pastries. Then it was through the town, down Bent Hill and onto the prom which has just become a shared space for pedestrians and cyclists - great news for Felixstowe:) It was beautiful along the seafront with a light offshore wind making the sea flat and with the sun sparkling off the water it was a good day for the open water swimmers gathered at The Fludgers. Round to The Dip and back on the prom to our favourite spot at the River Deben entrance for breakfast. The tide was low so there were no yachts but we were treated to loads of youngsters from Felixstowe Ferry SC. heading out to sea for some racing fun. The harbour master even came past and gave us a wave as we looked for coal - sadly not much about yet as we need a good winter storm to stir things up!
A quick look at the jetty before turning onto the River Deben path which is in the middle of a make-over and should be good when complete. A bumpy mile to Kings Fleet and away from the river to Falkenham, Kirton,Trimley and onto Levington Marina where we sat and watched the action on the River Orwell including an old barge and loads of pleasure craft. Then leaving the marina we past Loompit lake with several birds feeding at the waters edge and inland to the tree lined lanes, where Mag saw five deer leaping about in the fields:) The lovely tree arched section was pretty as usual and the path was nice and dry. At Felixstowe dock we headed to Landguard again to check for coal - nothing again before heading back along the prom and home. A nice couple of hours out covering 22 miles then it was lunch of French leftovers before heading to Lidl to stock up - nice day.
